The Chapel of Bones in Alcantarilha, Portugal. The walls are constructed with hundreds of human skulls and thigh bones. The chapel is attached to a church built in the 16th century on the grounds of an old cemetery. Not wanting the bones of those who were buried in the sacred ground to go unprotected once the bones were removed, the ‘Chapel of Bones’ was created to house the remains.
